Ford establishes separate divisions for EVs and traditional combustion engines – Sound and Vision – News

An EV requires a completely different platform than an ICE/float car, and actually the mixes are never ‘you of it’; purely because there are crazy things for an EV (no frunk, engine in a crazy place that the drive is difficult to reach, or even a whole axle tunnel), or for an ICE (raised floor where batteries otherwise go, crazy balance).

So I understand it from a logic point of view. There will also be some fiscal logic in it; In many markets, ICEs will simply disappear, except for certain niches. The EV is just actually a much more practical vehicle for a lot of things like buses, personal cars, and other things; but for something like tanks, farm trucks like pickups (with the trailer permanently attached), or very obscure things will have an ICE value (say it on other fuels). You see that more and more “EV components” are being added to F1, and I actually see the advantages of an EV there, simply because it is possible and more and more people are asking for it.

It allows the ICE branch to better serve that niche, without compromising the larger potential market. I won’t use the word “death house construction” because I think an ICE will stay, but the niche they stay in will change compared to the ICE as it is now.
