A third and decisive Swedish Championship final is required to bring out the 2021 Swedish champion in table tennis.
– This was a little more fun than on Tuesday, says Söderhamn’s match hero Viktor Brodd in the Pingisliga’s broadcast.
The Swedish Championship final team in table tennis would be as difficult to distinguish as their match jerseys. Söderhamn, SUIF, in red and Halmstad, LGBTK, in black and red collided in Söderhamn’s sports hall after LGBTK won match one at home.
Two golden points
Elias Ranefur, decisive for Halmstad in the first Swedish Championship final, probably made the national team captain Jörgen Persson think about whether he did the right thing that did not take him out of the Olympic squad. Ranefur easily won the first match against Jonatan McDonald. McDonald’s had major problems with Ranefur’s cunning backhand serve.
Match two became all the more even when both Viktor Brodd, SUIF, and Simon Arvidsson, LGBTK, each won a set with a golden point, a new rule for the season that directly decides at 10-10. In the end, Brodd took home that fight with 3-2 in sets.
After Fabian Åkerström, HBTK, beat Anders Eriksson 3-2, McDonald won over Arvidsson 3-1. Viktor Brodd then beat Åkerström in straight sets and Elias Ranefur was forced to defeat Anders Eriksson to equalize in the Swedish Championship final. Ranefur did not disappoint Hallänning and won 3-0 in sets.
Double decided
The match was 3-3. Now a double match awaited to decide whether Halmstad would win gold or whether Söderhamn would take the bus southwest for a decisive Swedish Championship final. Viktor Brodd continued on the winning track. Together with Anders Eriksson, he beat Ranefur and Arvidsson 2-0 in sets.
– It was nice that it started well tonight. Now it feels like it can go any way, says Viktor Brodd.
The decisive Swedish Championship final will be played in Halmstad on Monday.
