The bike and Poulidor
Born on May 28, 1951 in Forbach, Jacques Wolf had a passion for cycling, the Tour de France, at a very young age. His favorite runners, “Poulidor and Anquetil, examples of willpower, courage in effort”. He does odd jobs and saves for several years to pay for his first cycle, a touring bike. “It was freedom, you can practice where you want, when you want…” He begins by racing with his friends, then embarks on longer and longer trips, until he completes the Forbach-Reichstett journey. , north of Strasbourg, “to go and see my sister”. A hundred kilometers that do not scare him.
At the age of 18, Jacques Wolf took his license from the coal basin cycling union and clocked up the kilometres, 10 to 12,000 a year. He multiplies the competitions and ranks among the best, and, like his idol, Poulidor, subscribes… to second place. “At the end of the 70s, I decided to take a break. » In 1982, he took a new license at the Vélo-club de Forbach and went on to race again, more than 200, this time with several titles in his age category. A reward and above all a click.

The race for the podium
In 2016, Jacques Wolf came across an article in RL extolling the benefits of running. He decides, at 65, to take a license at the US Forbach athlete, and gradually turns into a runner, under the leadership of Robert Lang. “At first, when we went out, he let me go in the Schlossberg forest and by the time I got back to the stadium, he was already showered”, he remembers smiling, before adding: “Today today is very different! “Especially since he has only one desire, “to confront myself with others”. In a small notebook, he noted the reference times by age category. “We’re lucky to have a lot of 10k in the area. Jacques did them all. The first, “it was the Corrida de Schœneck in 2016, and I finished fourth”, a promising experience. Since then, “I have participated in 56 events, for 29 podiums, including eight in first place. »

The half by challenge
Jacques, always looking for new challenges, tried his hand at the half-marathon in 2019. “In Verdun, I finished 10e in my category, 60-70 years old, but I was one of the two oldest, ”he says. When he switched to the upper category, “I went to the ‘youngest’, so with a better chance of winning. “Three weeks ago, at the Thionville semi, he finished 302nd, but above all 2e septuagenarians. His objective today, “to achieve times equivalent to those qualifying for the French championships, just to prove to myself that I can”.
