For Women, Here Are Home Remedies To Overcome Vaginal Infections

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Vaginal yeast infection is a type of yeast infection in the vaginal area. Symptoms that may be felt are usually burning, itching, and thick white discharge. This problem can be overcome either with home remedies.

This vaginal yeast infection occurs when you have an overgrowth of Candida yeast. Launch Healthgrades, Friday (10/3/2023), here are some ways to treat vaginal yeast infections that you can do.

Treatment without a prescription

Your local drug store or local pharmacy may carry over-the-counter (OTC) creams that you can buy to treat yeast infections. Besides in stores, some of these creams are also available online.

These medicines contain antifungal ingredients which usually end in -azole. For example, fluconazole and miconazole. Vaginal creams also contain steroids to help relieve discomfort.

As for the treatment, it may be as an oral tablet, cream, or vaginal suppository. The type of drug determines the length of treatment. So, use this treatment according to the instructions on the package.

1. Boric acid

Boric acid is an acid that has mild antifungal and antiviral properties. Some uses of boric acid include treating yeast infections and canker sores.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggest taking 600 milligrams of boric acid if you have recurrent vaginal yeast infections. Boric acid is available in gelatin capsules that you can insert into your vagina once daily for 3 weeks or as indicated.

This medication is most effective for recurrent infections as opposed to single-time infections.

2. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil comes from the native Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia. It contains properties that can help fight a wide variety of viruses, bacteria, and fungi, including yeast.

According to a 2015 study, tea tree oil is effective in helping treat Candida yeast. However, researchers warn against taking tea tree oil orally. They suggest it only as a topical medication to avoid toxicity.

In addition, tea tree oil can also cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Before considering oils as a treatment, test the diluted oil on a small area on your forearm. If there’s no reaction, such as redness or irritation, after 24 hours, it’s probably safe for you to use.

Essential oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil. You can dilute it by adding three to five drops of tea tree oil to 1 ounce of warm coconut oil. One way is to soak a tampon in this mixture and then insert it into the vagina. Be sure to change tampons regularly.

Several studies have shown that essential oils may offer health benefits. However, keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not monitor essential oils for purity and quality. Always discuss new products with your doctor, and research brand products thoroughly before you start using them.
