Per Jannik Sinner Is the Clostebol case behind us? Not yet. “The assessment of the case – explain to Republic with Wadathe World Anti-Doping Agency – is still ongoing”. “Ongoing”, is the key term of the story. Recalling the point 13.2.3.5 of the Anti-Doping Code. Let’s clarify what could happen to the world number one tennis player.

The issue of the deadline for a possible appeal

Everything revolves around the day of the deadline for the possible appeal by Wada against the ruling by Itia (the independent agency that deals exclusively with tennis) that exonerated Sinner after the Clostebol case. As stated in the code, Wada has 21 days to appeal. When does the countdown start? Not from the day of publication of the ruling, but from when the World Anti-Doping Agency comes into possession of the documents. Code point 13.2.3.5. states in fact that “the deadline for the appeal can reach up to: A) 21 days after the last date on which each of the parties entitled to appeal could have done so. B) 21 days after Wada has received the complete documentation relating to the decision”.

Jannik Sinner: “I celebrated the US Open with hamburgers and coke. I didn’t sleep because of the Clostebol case. I bet a PlayStation with my team”

from our correspondent Paolo Rossi

Itia: “Cards sent last week”.

The documentation requested by Wada on the Sinner case “was sent last week”. For this reason, Sinner cannot yet be considered exonerated: theoretically, the World Anti-Doping Agency still has two weeks to file an appeal with the CAS. “At each hearing, there are additional documents, such as observations, scientific reports and other information that are taken into consideration by the panel. This – explains the Itia – is what Wada will request to consider its position. It is not that they are not satisfied with the decision, it is that they require all the information”.

Stefano Agostini: “If Sinner had been a cyclist they would have treated him in a completely different way. A pimple and an ointment ruined my career”

by Cosimo Cito
