For unproduced electricity, someone paid BGN 27.5 million to Ahmed Dogan’s aunt

TPP Varna, whose majority owner is the honorary leader of the MRF Ahmed Dogan, has received BGN 27.5 million for electricity that it has not yet produced.

Gas supplies to the plant have been suspended due to accumulated debt to Bulgargaz, about which 24 Chasa wrote on December 12.

However, the teak launched auctions for electricity on the energy exchange late last week and early this week. They were ordered to supply electricity in January for a little over BGN 27.5 million.

One buyer participated in the auctions in which the deals were concluded. In such cases, his name is not announced and it is not yet known who paid this amount to Teca for as yet unproduced electricity.

There were other tenders for electricity from the Varna TPP, but they were not successful. Danail Papazov, who is a representative of Varna TPP and a former transport minister in Plamen Oresharski’s government, told Mediapool that the proceeds from the deal will repay debts to Bulgargaz of BGN 24 million.

Papazov claims that he is currently negotiating with Bulgargaz to settle its debts and reiterates that some of the tenders have failed because the price of electricity has not been tied to their gas costs. The gas company clarifies that they have a contract with TPP “Varna” and deliveries will be resumed after the settlement of unpaid invoices.

On December 12, Papazov told 24 Chasa that they had shut down the plant themselves since October 1, as despite high electricity prices on the stock exchange, its production was not profitable due to peak gas values. Papazov explained that more than BGN 400 for natural gas plus BGN 20 for carbon emissions are paid for 1 megawatt-hour of electricity.

We stopped them because they owe money, however, the executive director of Bulgargaz Nikolay Pavlov told 24 Chasa. According to him, the debt is about BGN 24-25 million. The gas company has stopped supplying blue fuel, as well as seized the plant’s accounts. Pavlov clarified that everyone measures by one yardstick – whether they pay for gas.

According to the head of Bulgargaz, Teca’s debt is for gas from August and September.
