Brno’s Bolka Polívky Theater in Dělnické dům in Židenice acquired temporary facilities. Since Friday, he has been playing here and inhabiting the space, and he is the first to present Kati’s production here. He will stay until the end of November for now. Due to this, an elevation or slope of the auditorium was created in the hall, which allows a better view for the spectators in the back rows.
However, it is not yet certain where the theater will operate in December, admits its spokesperson Michal Adamík.
For the past 30 years, the Polívka Theater has been housed in a municipal building on Jakubské náměstí. However, this hall is now out of order due to problems with the statics. The city is preparing the Břetislav Bakaly Hall in the center as a long-term alternative for the Bolka Polívky Theatre, but this week the councilors have only approved a tender for the company that will renovate the building. According to an optimistic scenario, the hall could thus serve the theater in the second half of the season.
In the meantime, the audience must master the path to Židenice, just like principal Bolek Polívka, who made his journey to the Workers’ House filmed as a promotional video.
The hall on Jakubské náměstí had a capacity of more than 350 seats, the Dělnické dom can accommodate almost the same number of people. The sets and props are stored in an external warehouse. For now, the office remains in the center, the box office is open during the day on Jakubské náměstí, and in the evening also in Židenice, at least on the days when games are played.
The temporary arrangement also brings partial complications. Due to a collision with another program of the Workers’ House, the theater staff had to cancel or move some performances in the September program. For example, reruns of the games Who shot down the angel, Guy to kill, Celebrity, DADA Revue or Speech are cancelled.
Even in Židenice, however, the theater is already sold out for some performances. For example, there will be a full house on September 7 for the performance of DNA or September 17 for the Million Handyman.
