From today to Sunday, it will be possible to watch films nominated for the national cinema award “Lielais Kristaps” on the Internet portal “Filmas.lv” of the National Cinema Center (NKC), the festival’s press secretary Zane Dzene informed.
Due to the limitations of Covid-19, the festival “Kristaps the Great” and its award ceremony will take place online this year. For the first time, viewers will have the opportunity to watch the award – winning documentary, animation and student film, premiere and retrospective of Kalvis Zalcmanis, the winner of the Lifetime Prize, on the website “Filmas.lv” for three days.
On the portal “Filmas.lv” you will be able to see such documentaries nominated for “Big Kristaps” as “I Wear” by director Ivars Zviedra, “Wanderers” by Matīza Kaža, Andras Drošs “Be Beautiful”, Laura and Mārča Ābeļi “Hike ’44”, Aleksandra Okonova ” Song Chamber Mystery “I’m Going to War” “, Pauls Dombrovskis” My Beloved Don “and Dzintra Geka’s” Every Day in the Century. Seasons “.
On the portal you will also be able to watch the animated film “All My Friends Are Dead” nominated for “Big Kristaps”, directed by Anna Zača and Nils Skapāns, as well as student films – Alice Zariņa’s film “Two Stripes”, Kate Rasa Ozola’s film “Deviation”, Rūta Znotina’s film “Dream Spring”, Georg Harry Ava’s film “Suspension Prima” and Kristaps Opincāns’ film “Shambhala”.
The retrospective films “Life” (1972, director Hertz Franks), “Echo” (1983, director Ansis Epners), “Superintendents” (1983, director Epners), “The Conductor”, “The Lifetime” (1972, director) will also be shown online. The Ugly Duckling – a Child ‘s Child “(1985, directed by Laima Žurgina) and” Džemma “(1986, directed by Žurgina). All films from the State Archive of Film and Photophono Documents have just been restored with the support of the Ministry of Culture (MoC) and will remain in the “Filmas.lv” film library.
The films included in this program will be shown all over the world, except for the Swedish film “The Wearer”.
There will also be premiere and special screenings of several films, to which you can receive invitations on the portal “Filmas.lv”, where you can find information on how to apply for special screenings. These films will be shown in the territory of Latvia.
Today at 7 pm “Kristaps the Great” will be opened with the premiere of Mārtiņš Graud’s documentary “Tree Opera”. The film documents the production of Anna Kirse’s contemporary opera in the forests of Finland.
Tomorrow, November 13, at 9 pm, the screening of the most nominated film “City by the River” will take place. This film was directed by Viesturs Kairišs and received 15 nominations.
On Saturday, November 14, at 7 pm, the premiere of Liene Linde and Armands Začs’ documentary “Presence” will be shown, which reveals the experiences and reflections of four Latvian women during pregnancy.
Several “Kristaps the Great” films will also be available on various television platforms, Dzene said.
The “Big Kristaps” award ceremony will take place on the evening of Sunday, November 15, and will be broadcast live on Latvian Television and “Replay.lv”, as well as on the public media portal “Lsm.lv”. The award ceremony will take place without spectators and will be broadcast from the pavilion of the National Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture, where the leaders of the ceremony and the jury will be located, but the connection to the nominees will take place live.
This year’s “Big Kristaps” films will be judged by an international jury and will feature Aija Bērziņa from the Latvian Film Producers ‘Association, Kaspars Braķis from the Latvian Cinematographers’ Guild, actress and director Elita Kļaviņa, former Lithuanian Cinema Center director Rolandas Kvietkauskas, Lithuanian director Jūnas Poelis, director Ieva Viese-Vigula, a member of the international association of film critics “Fipresci”.
Viewers’ voting on the portal “Lsm.lv” will continue until today at 23.59.
“Lielais Kristaps” won the status of a national award in 2016, and this year the awards will be presented for the 32nd time. The National Film Award “Kristaps the Great” is organized by the Latvian Cinematographers’ Union in cooperation with the NCC and the Ministry of Culture.
