Due to rising wood prices on the Czech market, slowly but surely there is no longer a choice between bulk and stacked wood.
This winter season is particularly hard for those who use firewood exclusively or mainly for heating and water heating. The way he writes iToday, it has become considerably more expensive and, moreover, there is a shortage of it on the Czech market. People wait months for deliveries. Czech forest spokesperson Eva Jouklová explains to Událostem247 that the amount of firewood offered to processors this year is lower. Among other things, the receding bark beetle plague had its effect on this.
Plywood has almost disappeared from the market
Not all customers are experts in its categories when buying firewood, he points out eshop Lumber warehouses. Especially the less experienced should ask the seller for correct and complete markings. The important thing is that it is loose or leveled firewood (stacked). A square meter is a 1 m3 cube, filled with aligned logs to create as few empty spaces as possible. A loose meter means that the logs are poured freely into one cubic meter, it is written further on the Dřevosklad website.
Timber seller Aleš Krupa told Událost247 that the first delivery of timber arrived at his Hlučín business after six long months. “Hard and soft we now have wood in stock, but it’s insanely expensive. We all sell the so-called ‘loose space meter’. Price? For hard, about three thousand crowns per cubic meter; soft ones for 1,800 – 2,000. The stored wood has practically ceased to be offered. The price is double, no one would pay it today “.
The increase in the price of wood does not end
Josef Pustějovský from Frenštát pod Radhoště Událost247 described how difficult it was for him to find firewood for this year’s winter. As he puts it, he picked them up almost in pieces. “Everything was dismantled, because they kept saying it was going to get more and more expensive. So only a little and more or less after the acquaintance ». He also stocked up on larger pieces of wood for later seasons. “These are round logs, cut into pieces, which are tied in a bundle and left to dry for another three years.”
Timber seller Aleš Krupa estimates that price growth will continue. His suppliers have already announced it as soon as the first snow falls, they will have to raise their prices, he told Events247. This is necessarily reflected in the prices for end users. They have already experienced twelve of these price increases since the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine in February. “Bulk hardwood now costs three thousand instead of a thousand. For most people today it is unthinkable to pay extra for the same.”
