On Tuesday, the Cabinet of Ministers supported the proposal of the Ministry of Health (MoE) to reduce the term of self-isolation from 14 to ten days for foreign immigrants, while setting some exceptions.
Ministers today considered an amendment to the regulations “Epidemiological safety measures to control the spread of Covid-19 infection”.
At the government meeting, the Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele (AP) informed that if a person has been traveling outside Latvia, then when returning to Latvia, he should observe ten days of self-isolation, not 14 days of self-isolation.
At the same time, the 14-day self-isolation requirement will continue to apply to those who have been in contact with a Covid-19 infected person.
Similarly, the 14-day self-isolation requirement will continue to apply to persons employed in medical institutions, social care institutions and educational establishments who are in direct contact with other people, such as doctors assisting patients or teachers working with children. .
At the same time, an exception is made in this case: these people will be able to take the Covid-19 test on the eighth day after leaving the country. If the test is negative, people will be able to return to work on the 11th day after leaving the country. If the person does not want to take the test, the duration of self-isolation will still be 14 days.
Yuri Perevoshchikov, director of the Infectious Diseases Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), informed the government of studies showing that a ten-day self-isolation requirement can be applied to foreign migrants.
The government also supported the amendment to the rules proposed by the MoU, which sets out the procedure for an educational institution to deal with the need to quarantine an entire class or a wider range of learners.
