For those of you who like to eat, beware of typhoid fever targeting the body through food, the danger can be loss of life – All Pages

GridHype.IDTyphoid fever commonly known as types (typhoid).

Launching HelloSehat.com, typhoid fever is an acute disease caused by bacteria Salmonella typhi.

These bacteria are usually found in contaminated water or food.

In addition, these bacteria can also be transmitted from infected people.

Typhoid fever which can also be called typhus abdominalis is a bacterial infection that can spread throughout the body and affect many organs.

Without prompt and proper treatment, this disease can lead to serious complications that can be fatal.

Often misunderstood, types different from type.

Typhoid fever also included foodborne disease, the term for diseases caused by bacteria or viruses, is actually transmitted through food.

Quoting Kompas.com, this was conveyed directly by Dr. Suzy Maria Sp.PD, K-AI. Internal Medicine Specialist at the launch of the #SantapAman campaign by Sanofi Pasteur Indonesia, Thursday (11/11/2021).

Can cause death

Suzy said, diseases that are infected through the gastrointestinal tract can be characterized by mild symptoms, severe symptoms, or no symptoms.

“Later he makes symptoms, there can be diarrhea, or it can be difficult to defecate (BAB), stomach pain, then he will enter the bloodstream so that symptoms of fever occur,” said Suzy.

“So the entry is through the gastrointestinal tract first but the symptoms can be one body,” said Suzy again.

While severe symptoms of typhoid fever can cause complications that cause leakage in a person’s gastrointestinal tract.

“So it leaks in the intestines or it can also cause toxic substances to reach the brain, the person becomes unconscious,” he said.

Severe symptoms of typhoid fever that are not responded to quickly can have a further impact, which can lead to death.

“If the treatment is not strong, the complications can be very fatal and can even lead to death and the facts are there, so it’s not just a theory, there are also deaths from typhoid complications in Indonesia,” said Suzy.

Sufferers can be “spreaders”

On the other hand, with severe symptoms, patients with asymptomatic typhoid fever have the potential to be carriers or “spreaders” of Salmonella typhi.

According to Suzy, typhi carriers, or people with typhoid fever without symptoms, can create a wider spread if the person works as a food processor, presenter, or delivery person.

“He seems healthy but he carries a disease and then it infects other people,” said Suzy.

“So it can be from contaminated hands, it can be from contaminated food ingredients, the storage area may be contaminated as well,” he continued.

Suzy admits that it is difficult to be sure whether a food manufacturing industry is implementing proper hygiene standards or not.

However, he considers that a food cannot be sterile, unlike medical equipment in a hospital.

“In terms of food and drink, it is natural that it can be contaminated, yes, it is contaminated by either bacteria or viruses which if swallowed by us can become disease,” he explained.

Precautions

That is why, what can be done to prevent typhoid fever is to minimize the possibility of the spread of this infectious disease.

Some tips to minimize the possibility of getting typhoid fever suggested by Suzy are maintaining personal hygiene, food hygiene, and getting the typhoid vaccine.

Personal hygiene can be done by washing hands with soap, while food hygiene can be ensured through a heating process to 70 degrees Celsius.

“Make sure that the food has been cooked thoroughly because if it’s not cooked enough, especially if it’s raw food, it’s raw, the contaminated bacteria are intact and immediately invite contamination if infected by us,” said Suzy.

Another way to prevent typhoid fever, which is considered optimal, is to vaccinate.

Typhoid vaccine can be obtained by children aged two years to adults in some hospitals or clinics.

Later, the typhoid vaccine will function to maintain immunity for the next three years.

“After three years the immunity usually decreases, we will repeat the vaccination again. So it continues to keep us from contracting typhoid fever,” said Suzy.

“Back again, so that if we want to enjoy food, both of us already have immunity, at least the worries can be minimized. So we can really enjoy enjoying the food we like,” he concluded.
