The actress preferred not to openly talk about the real reason for abandoning the project.
The filming of the third season of The Magnificent Century turned into a scandal when Meryem Uzerli suddenly refused the role of Alexandra Anastasia Lisowska. Later, in her interviews, the artist referred to burnout and worries about her pregnancy: the shooting schedule was too tight. However, there is a version that not only this was the reason for leaving the project.
There is information that Userli was not satisfied with the size of her fee. For one episode she received 17 thousand dollars, while the performer of the role of Suleiman Khalit Ergench was paid 20 thousand. The actress was outraged by the difference in salary.
However, the artist did not fight because of 3 thousand dollars – it was much more money. In addition to the main license fee, Ergench received a percentage for broadcasting the series overseas. Along with the allowance, his per-episode income was approximately $40,000.
These conditions revolted Uzerli. He believed that, as a protagonist, he deserved the same conditions. However, the producers ignored his wishes. It is possible that this could be the reason for Meryem’s scandalous departure from the project.
