Michel Platini, former Ballon d’Or and UEFA President, regrets that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo did not say stop after their respective departures from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
When we mention the names of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, many images come to mind for football fans. Figureheads of modern football, they are for many observers the 2 greatest players in the history of football, they who have won 12 Ballons d’Or in total. If the Portuguese is obviously stamped Real Madrid, the Argentinian will forever be affiliated with FC Barcelona. However, both decided (or were forced) to continue their respective careers in other clubs. Juventus then Manchester United for CR7, and the Paris Saint Germain for Pulga. Logical career choices, at 37 and 35, as these 2 monsters still have to bring to football. However, according to a French legend in the middle, triple winner of the Ballon d’Or, their departure from Barça and Real have tainted their respective legend.
Platini regrets seeing them elsewhere
This icon is Michel Platini, a true idol at Juventus and one of the greatest French footballers in history, who would have preferred to see the 2 legends end their careers in Spain: “With all the respect I have for Ronaldo and Messi, I said stop at 32, they could have done the same. I could have gone to FC Barcelona or Marseille, but I wanted people to identify me with the club with which we had written history. Ronaldo was Real, and Messi Barça”. He then continues his demonstration by adding: “Unlike them, and even if it meant continuing to play, I wouldn’t have gone to another big club, but to the USA or China”. Not sure that one like the other are very impacted by this message, which however had the merit of being passed.
