For these reasons… The Paris Opera cancels two concerts in Vienna and London – Lebanon

On Thursday, the Paris Opera canceled two major concerts by its orchestra, which were supposed to be performed by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel in April in Vienna and London, noting that economic reasons prompted it to take this decision.

The prestigious institution, which announced these two concerts in August, stated, in a statement, that it “was forced to cancel the two upcoming concerts at the Musikverein Hall in Vienna and the Barbican in London on April 14 and 22, 2023, because the organizational arrangements were not compatible with the desired economic balance.”

One of the concerts was to constitute the first performance of this orchestra at the Barbican Theatre, and the Paris Opera regretted “the cancellation of the date of the concert that was to be attended by a new audience.”

She reminded the opera of the “weak economic model of concerts outside France”, reaffirming its desire to highlight its talents outside the borders.

The Barbican expressed its regret on its website, citing “factors that make concert tours a financial challenge for the Paris Opera”.

And the Paris Opera lost 175 million of its revenues in 2020-2022 due to the health crisis.

Despite saving 70 million euros and receiving exceptional assistance of 86 million euros from the French authorities, the opera still needs 20 million euros, according to figures dating back to March 2022.
