Does it make you happy
Are you such a sucker for all things Christmas once it’s December? Then you will be very happy with the following do-list with the most festive events.
Parade
Wat: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
When: November 28
Where: Manhattan
Okay, when we talk about December we actually mean late November to early January. The festive season will kick off in New York on November 28 with Thanksgiving. This American national holiday is celebrated annually with the classic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and speaking of bells and whistles… well, you’ll find it here without a doubt. Think of life-size helium balloons and floats, and of course the necessary hysteria around it.
Largest Christmas tree
Wat: Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lightning Ceremony
When: December 4
Where: Manhattan
A mouth full, this activity, and that while it is above all a feast for the eyes. Lighting New York’s largest Christmas tree has been a tradition for decades, as we know Home Alone. The tree is always hoisted up on the square on November 9, but the lights are not officially turned on until a month later, on December 4.
New Year’s Eve
Wat: New Year’s Eve Times Square Ball Drop
When: December 31
Waar: Times Square, Manhattan
You’ve probably seen the world-famous Ball Drop on television or in a movie, but being there is truly unique. At the stroke of twelve o’clock the ball falls in front of thousands of people; the start of a festive evening in New York.
Fireworks show
Wat: New Year’s Eve Fireworks
When: December 31
Where: Prospect Park, Brooklyn
Anyone who finds Times Square a little too overwhelming on New Year’s Eve can ring in the New Year in Brooklyn, too. In Prospect Park you will end 2019 festively with live music and you will literally ring in the new year with a dazzling fireworks show. The American way of course – nice and extensive and exuberant.

Winter festival
Wat: New York City Lantern Festival
When: from November 20 to January 12
Where: Randall Manor, Staten Island
In December, Manhattan is fully decorated with Christmas lights, but for the ultimate lights route you have to be on Staten Island. It hosts the Winter Lantern Festival for two months from mid-November to mid-January, during which more than fifty LED installations, such as light tunnels and illuminated artworks, are set up. If you take the free ferry from Lower Manhattan, you will also pass the Statue of Liberty; extra bright spot.
Foodfestival
What: Latke Festival at the Brooklyn Museum
When: December 16
Where: Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
In addition to lights, we love food in December (yes, even more than usual). The Latke Festival takes advantage of this in a tasty and smart way, because during the food festival, various restaurants present their best recipe for potato pancakes in the Brooklyn Museum, the proceeds of which are donated to charity.

Presentation
What: Christmas Carol at the Lyceum Theater
When: November 7th to January 5th
Where: Manhattan
An ultimate Christmas story is part of the holiday season, and where better to experience it in New York than in the theater? A visit to the Lyceum Theater on Broadway is a big party in itself. For eight weeks, that party is transformed into a Christmas party, because the classic story is then brought to the stage. Includes Christmas songs. It doesn’t get any cozier, folks.
