/ world today news/ The letter of Druzhba Rodina, which we are publishing, was sent to the mentioned institutions on May 9, 2016. In it, as it becomes clear, the organization once again alarms the state and political elite about the ongoing malicious manipulation of public opinion.
The problem of the so-called revival process, of the Turkification of the Mohammedan Bulgarians, of the frank and illegal – to put it mildly – involvement of huge masses of people from the mixed (what an incorrect and ugly word) areas in the battle of two religions and two cultures – these are the topics that Druzhba Rodina researches, argues, publicizes and declares loudly with the noble goal of awakening the public senses of the Bulgarian citizen.
The facts on the problem of the manipulation of history, and especially the issue of Turkish slavery, of Turkish self-awareness, of the forced Bulgarianization of the so-called Turks in Bulgaria, of the myths and legends of the neoliberal superficial and therefore well-paid “martyrology”, you see, no Batak, no Perushtitsa, there is good neighborliness and interpenetration of cultures, etc., are so many and so eloquent that only a well-paid mercenary minority can applaud the successes in the field of integration and good neighborliness between enslavers and enslaved.
Recently, in addition to “Strategic Depth” by Prof. Ahmet Davutoglu, and the book “The Turks in Bulgaria” by ed. “Vagabond” becomes a normative historical transplant on the actual historical body of Bulgarian existence over the centuries. The editor-in-chief of “Vagabond” confessed the following in an interview: “The Turks in Bulgaria” is the natural continuation of “Guide to Ottoman Bulgaria”, which we published last year (2011 – note ed.). “Ottoman Bulgaria” focuses primarily on the Ottoman material heritage on our lands, especially architecture – public buildings, inns, mosques, baths, fountains, bridges, clock towers. These architectural facts are part of the Bulgarian cultural heritage…”!
We will not quote further the concern for this so-called Bulgarian cultural heritage of the editor-in-chief of “Vagabond”. We will leave him to regret that the circulation of the fake “Turks in Bulgaria” was already exhausted. But as they say, Inshallah, he will get cold hands with a few thousand more euros and the Turks in Bulgaria will become many more. For purely research purposes, of course.
However, we are interested in the truth that chases the lie, creates myths and mythologizes lies. The de-geronization of Bulgarian history and the satanization of every attempt to protect Bulgarian honor and dignity, even when they are not the primary responsibility of the state institutions, echo more and more deafeningly in Bulgarian society. The pursuit of collective guilt is not an innocent pursuit. The spread of fabrications aimed at inter-ethnic enmity should not be left without consequence. Because this is not and cannot be just low-brow amateurism. Behind them peeks the strategic depth not of good neighborliness and goodwill, but monstrous dreams and dreams of repeating history. And no one realizes that in these latitudes history has always returned as a tragedy.
The initiative of “Druzhba “Rodina” for the credibility of facts and words can only render meaningless the temporary conquests of the lie and give wings to the truth buried in the mud. But only the truth makes us free and strong!

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
On March 19, 2016, in the village of Barutin, during a commemorative rally dedicated to the revival process, Mr. Aliosman Imamov, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly from the DPS party, made a speech. As can be seen from a publication in the village of “Trud” dated 19.03.2016 (see Appendix 1), he states: “We are against violence in all its forms, we condemn the Batash massacre and all violence before and after it. All these events should be in the textbooks.”
The Board of Directors of Druzhba “Rodina” – a cultural and educational organization of united Bulgarian Christians and Mohammedans, supports the position thus expressed by Mr. Imamov, because it is the basis of our understanding of the way to unite for the good of our Motherland as a member of the European Union.
Today’s generations of Bulgarians and Turks, Christians and Muslims are not to blame for the former violence, but we are obliged to study them and tell the truth for the lesson of future generations and to make sure that this does not happen again, and that the culprits are punished.
At the same time, we take the opportunity to make several important clarifications:
1. On March 16, 1972, in the village of Barutin, there was a clash between the state authorities and Muslim Bulgarians in connection with changing their names. The term “revival process” was probably used for the first time by Georgi Atanasov, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, on January 18, 1985, in a report to the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party in connection with the renaming of the Bulgarian Turks in the 1980s years of the last century, and it is not correct to use this term for events before that, a trend that started in our country in the 1990s and continues to this day (see Appendix 2).
2. The “experiments” with the Bulgarian population in the Rhodopes have not been carried out for 100 years, as Mr. Mustafa Karadayi, co-chairman of the DPS, said in his speech during the same rally, but for 600 years, and they began with the conquest of the mountain by the Ottoman troops and the subsequent Islamization of part of the Bulgarian population. After our Liberation from Ottoman rule, they continue to this day as a result of the inconsistent policy of the restored Bulgarian state. It is high time that democratic Bulgaria hinders the attempts of various emissaries from foreign countries to impose their interests. We expect the state to guarantee all Bulgarian citizens the right and the opportunity to choose their own names, what religion to practice, which party to support, which language to learn.
3. For a quarter of a century, there has been speculation about the number of victims in the village of Barutin and in the Smolyan region. Examples in this regard can be cited as follows:
3.1. The statement of the regional leader of the DPS, Mr. Salih Arshinski, before the “Otzvuk” village, no. 33 (2381), 2015, through which he publicly announced false claims that 25 people were killed during a name change in the Smolyan region (see Appendix 3, 4.1, 4.2., 4.3, 4.4, 4.5).
3.2. Prof. Husein Memisoglu of Ankara University in his book “Pages from the Historical Past of the Pomaks”, published in Bulgarian, English and Turkish, writes about 315 people killed in Barutin during these events (see Appendix 5). We recall Resolution of the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office dated 26.06.2015 No. 50388/02.07.2015, which we sent you on the occasion of an investigation into the lies of the Turkish professors – Husein Memisoglu and Ilker Alp, about mass murders of Bulgarian Muslims during the renaming in 1972/1973.
3.3. Prof. Ilker Alp in his book “Bulgarian Atrocities in Documents and Photographs”, published in English and Turkish, writes under a photo “Barutin, a historical Turkish village before it was destroyed by the Red Barbarians: 85% of the population was slaughtered during 4–5 days, in the period 14–18 March 1972.” (see Appendix 6)
3.4. Prof. Evgenia Ivanova from the New Bulgarian University in her book “The Rejected “Associated” or the Process Called “Revival” (1912-1989)” writes: “The blockade of Barutin began on March 15, 1972 and lasted until the 17th . The two hamlets are separated from each other. The upper one (“West Berlin”) is surrounded by tanks. The fire spews boiling water. And the shift in the uranium mine is welded in the bathroom. N. Ch. managed to escape. They caught him and after two months they sentenced him to 12 years for allegedly hitting the driver of some boss… Initially they wanted a death sentence. They went from house to house and beat.”
On the same page, the memories of a certain D.K., son of the murdered N.K., from “West Berlin” are published: “They broke down the door and killed her at home, with a wound to the head. Then they issued a death certificate that she died of dysentery. My brother and his wife were all injured. It was just war. We were more isolated from the Upper Village, so we suffered more. The wounded were taken to the hospital. My brother’s wife did not call that she was injured and after 2 years she died.” (See Appendix 7.)
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Once again, we are writing to you with concern about the lies and speculations about our recent past on such a sensitive topic as the changing of the Turkish-Arabic names to Bulgarian for Mohammedan Bulgarians. It concerns the peaceful communication between Muslims and Christians and our good neighborly relations with the Republic of Turkey.
Mr. Imamov in his speech in the village of Barutin stated that: “All these events should be in the textbooks.” We wonder which ones?
Dear MPs,
It is in your hands, together with other competent authorities of the state, to publicize the truth about the number of victims and the events of the 1970s.
It is your responsibility to stop the lies and speculation about these events that have left a heavy mark on our society.
