For the time being, Attila Vidnyánszky does not wish to comment on Dorottya Udvaros’ national contract

April 9, 2024 – 2:23 p.m

The National Theater does not want to comment on today’s press report, according to which Dorottya Udvaros has not yet received a contract at the National Theater for the next season. In response to Telex’s question, the press chief of Nemzeti said that they do not wish to comment for the time being, but as soon as they have information to share on the matter, they will publish it. Regarding when exactly this can be expected, he stated that it depends on director Attila Vidnyánszky.

A Flash information according to Dorottya Udvaros, the fact that the contract has not yet been signed was not Dorottya Udvaros’s decision, according to the actress’s colleagues, the management of the theater and the director, Vidnyánszky, did not extend it with the Kossuth Prize-winning artist. The paper also contacted Udvaros, who confirmed that he does not currently have a valid contract for the next season, and said that what he has discussed with the director so far is not public.

If it turns out that Udvaros does not sign a contract with Dorottya for the next season, Udvaros would leave the company after 22 years. In 2002, he signed a contract with the theater and worked under the direction of György Schwajda, Róbert Alföldi and Attila Vidnyánszky. He currently plays four roles in the theater. The actress was selected among the Actors of the Nation in 2023.

We interviewed Dorottya Udvaros last Christmas, in which she said that she stayed at the National Theater during the change of director in 2013 because she really believed in creating special performances and was curious about Vidnyánszky’s poetic theater. In relation to the serious accident in Nemzeti, however, the investigation “must be precedent-setting”. “Keep looking for those responsible, it cannot be duplicated, because this must not happen again.”
