One person was shot in the leg in New York’s Times Square theater and shopping district on Monday, in the third incident of its kind so far this year.
The event occurred around 12:15 pm near the entrance to the subway train on Calle 40 and 7th Avenue, police said, about two blocks from the place where the gigantic New Year’s rally is being held.
The person was shot in the street and ran into the subway, police said. The injuries did not appear to be serious.
In May, a 4-year-old girl and two other people were hit by stray bullets, apparently after being caught in the middle of a dispute between two brothers.
In June, a 21-year-old man from upstate New York was hit by a stray bullet. A 16-year-old was charged in that case.
Following the June incident, Mayor Bill de Blasio promised to increase the police presence in the area, which is already heavily policed.
