For the sake of his family, this former TV news anchor sells street food

Ex news bearer on television (TV) is now selling food on the roadside. His life changed drastically since there was a conflict in his country.

The conflict in Afghanistan has had a major impact on the people there. After the Taliban managed to take over the country, some of the regulations became very strict. The impact was felt by Afghans, including this former news anchor.

Before Afghanistan was taken by the Taliban, Mosa Mohammadi was a journalist who worked as a news anchor and television reporter. Reporting from thequint.com (17/06), Mosa Mohammadi has been in the media industry since 2011.

But unfortunately he had to lose his job after the Taliban took over his home country in August 2021. Because of this, Mosa Mohammadi is now forced to switch professions to become a food seller in order to support his family.

Her story has been in the spotlight since her ex’s photo news bearer who is selling this food circulating on social media. The photo was shared by a Kabul University lecturer and another former news anchor named Kabir Haqmal.

They uploaded photos via tweets on Twitter with the aim of highlighting the plight of Afghans who are being hit by poverty.

In the photo, Mosa Mohammadi is seen sitting on the side of the road with his food. The tweet also sheds light on Mosa’s life as a former journalist who has to earn a living by selling food. It turned out that this photo upload was highlighted by many netizens.

Speaking to The Quint, Mohammadi recounted the path of his career that ended sadly. He said that after the Taliban took over his country, the television channel where he used to work, namely Ariana News, could not afford to pay employees’ salaries. In the end, all the workers there were fired, including himself.

After having to quit his job, Mohammadi was unemployed at home for six to seven months. He was confused about how to support his family while he was newly married and his mother fell ill.

Mohammadi felt that he had no other choice but to do any kind of work, the important thing was to be able to support his family. “I had no other choice but to do whatever I could to support my family,” he told The Quint.

Her sister who works in a government office can’t even help with finances at home. Until finally, this condition prompted Mosa to sell samosas on the streets in order to make ends meet. Now it has become his daily work.

Behind his decision, of course, Mosa is also trying to apply for jobs in various sectors ranging from the media, non-governmental institutions, to the private sector. Unfortunately no one has responded yet.

The viral post about Mosa caught the attention of Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of Afghanistan National Radio and Television. He tweeted that he would help exes news bearer those in trouble include Mosa Mohammadi.

The Taliban’s victory over Afghanistan has brought about an economic and political crisis in the country. In addition to the work problems experienced by this former news anchor, some people there, especially women, also have to face problems of education, work, and freedom.
