For a long time, part of the left sought to mobilize around the defense of strong public services and tax justice. The recent citizen, political and union defeats must challenge us: despite the strong mobilization that may have aroused both opposition to the pension reform and the yellow vests movement or the railway workers’ strike in 2018, these fights ended in defeats. How then to analyze these social movements and rebuild a discourse capable of providing a general interpretation grid, a project capable of eliciting adhesion? Let us bet here that the central stake is the overthrow of the heart of our demands, which wrongly accept to be situated on the ground imposed by the dominant class, at the origin of the reforms. Any emancipatory discourse must imperatively reinvest the central questions of work and investment.
The definition of work: a decisive issue
Central stake in the class struggle, the definition of work – which is not at all natural – is never neutral.
