Krefeld / Düsseldorf / Duisburg / Essen / Viersen / Wesel / Mönchengladbach / Mülheim an der Ruhr / Neuss. November 12 is the day of love for mathematics: study group and world champion of mental arithmetic take a stand for the “horror subject”

More than half of the students in the tutoring receive support in mathematics. This makes math by far the number one tutoring subject, even in the study group. Many children and teenagers hate math and struggle with numbers, equations and formulas. “Mathematics can be exciting and fun,” says Thomas Momotow of the Studienkreis. The tutoring institute then declared on November 12 I-love-Math-Day and on this occasion on its website ilovemathe.de put together a lot of fun, original and useful things about math.

The campaign received significant support from Dr. Dr Gert Mittring. The Studienkreis produced a series of five videos featuring the eleven-time world champion in mental arithmetic ilovemathe.de are to be found. In it, Mittring shows some of his amazing arithmetic tricks, with which he competes successfully in math championships. He makes no secret of his knowledge of him, on the contrary. He has been passing it on to students in a fun way for many years. So you don’t have to be a math world champion to understand and apply Mittring’s methods.

Mental arithmetic is great

For example, with some tricks where small numbers are added, you can calculate the appropriate day of the week for each date in your head. Anyone who closely follows Gert Mittring’s video will know pretty quickly that May 26, 2023 will be a Friday. “This amazes friends and maybe even arouses interest in mathematics,” says Thomas Momotow.

Gert Mittring has been passionate about mathematics since childhood, especially mental arithmetic. But as a student, he experienced that talent doesn’t automatically mean success in school. Today he runs a talent psychology and diagnostics studio in Bonn, advises companies, writes books and lectures on mathematical and psychological topics. It is especially important for him to take the stress and fears of mathematics away from children and young people. “Positive experiences without frenzy and pressure are crucial and good mentoring with the right people on the spot can offer something like this,” he is convinced.
