For the fourth consecutive week, the number of Covid-19 cases imported per day is increasing

During the last four weeks – from March 8 to April 11 – most or a total of 18 Covid-19 cases were imported from abroad directly from Germany.

In second place in terms of the number of imported cases is Egypt, from which 13 Covid-19 cases were imported to Latvia from March 8 to April 11. Meanwhile, 12 cases were imported from Lithuania, Estonia and Sweden. In turn, 11 cases were imported from Ukraine, nine – from the Netherlands, seven – from Great Britain and six – from Russia.

The number of cases imported from the other countries – France, Belarus, Turkey, Poland, Denmark, Bulgaria, Bolivia, Belgium, USA, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Moldova, Mexico, Ghana, Austria, the United Arab Emirates and Romania – is less than five, and in most cases does not exceed one case of Covid-19.

The epidemiologist also explained that the higher number of imported cases could be explained not only by the epidemiological situation in the country, as in the case of Sweden, where the incidence rate is relatively high, but also by the number of trips. “Where the incidence is high, it is clear that there are higher risks of infection, but higher risks of importing infection are also associated with the flow of travelers. The more travelers visit a country and return, the more likely they are to be infected,” explained the epidemiologist. .

It has already been reported that the incidence of Covid-19 in Latvia is currently rising again – if this indicator had previously decreased, then this indicator increased by 7.1% last week, according to the latest data compiled by the SPKC for the last week.
