The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the use of the Moderna vaccine for all age groups from 18 years of age. This vaccine, which is manufactured by the American company Modern Biotechnology, has an efficacy of 94.1% against Covid-19 and is applied in two doses. The second after 28 days.
According to the WHO website, La Moderna was first accepted on a list of emergency vaccines against the coronavirus. These doses can be kept refrigerated at 2-8 degrees for 30 days before taking the first dose from them. Thanks to this characteristic, in many cases it is not necessary to have equipment to maintain the extreme cold chain.
Inclusion in the WHO emergency use list allows evaluating the quality, safety and efficacy of vaccines against Covid-19 and it is a prerequisite for supplying them through the Covax Mechanism. Once the emergency use period has passed, countries can expedite the internal regulatory authorization to import and administer these vaccines to their respective populations, as in the case of Bolivia.
The vaccine has been reviewed by the WHO Immunization Strategic Advisory Expert Group, which makes recommendations on the use of vaccines in populations.
In the country, the Ministry of Health and Sports has not yet defined to which age group the 1,965,600 doses will be destined, announced by President Luis Arce on this day, through his Twitter account.
