People from the BMW M division first recalled the unique prototype of the BMW E46 M3 Touring, then unveiled the stern of the new production BMW M3 Touring.

The BMW M3 models have been available in several body versions over the years – such as coupes, sedans and convertibles. Although the developers in the car company also toyed with the idea of a sports station wagon, it will eventually get official space in showrooms only this year.
However, the BMW M division decided to recall on its YouTube channel how far it actually went with the development of the sharp station wagon years ago. This will certainly not come as a surprise to big BMW M lovers, but did you know that the BMW E46 M3 generation could already get the Touring version?

The carmaker built a unique prototype, with the tuning of which it really won. Emphasis was placed on aesthetics and technology, but the complexity of the transition from the body of the coupe to the station wagon model meant too high a complexity and the associated costs. The E46 M3 Touring project ended up on the ice, although its duel with the Audi S4 Avant would certainly be an interesting spectacle.
However, over the years, the BMW M3 Touring project has gained the green light, and over the last few months we have been following a series of demonstrations that are preparing us for its official unveiling. So far, BMW has always shown only a camouflaged car, but this time it made an exception.
At the end of the new video, the stern of the new BMW M3 Touring is revealed for the first time. We can see the rear bumper with a distinctive black diffuser, which contrasts with the silver body. Of course, there are also four tailpipes of the exhaust system or roof spoiler, which is produced by 3D printing technology.

The technical parameters of the new station wagon have not yet been confirmed, but it will most likely offer a 3.0-liter supercharged in-line six-cylinder with an output of 375 kW. The engine is likely to be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive system with specific tuning for M models.
The more practical station wagon will probably be a bit slower than traditional M3 models, yet acceleration to one hundred under four seconds is expected. The maximum speed will certainly be more than enough for fast movements on the German highway.
The launch date of the new BMW M3 Touring has not yet been officially confirmed, but there is talk of this summer.
