For the first time since the 1980s, more records than CDs have been sold in the United States

For the first time since the 1980s, more records than CDs have been sold in the United States, according to the American Record Industry Association (RIAA).

They show that the sales of records in the first six months of this year amounted to 232 million dollars, which is 62% of the total revenue from the sale of music in physical form.

“Thus, for the first time since the 1980s, record sales have surpassed CD sales in that period,” the association said.

However, the RIAA acknowledges that the revenue from the sale of records accounted for only 4% of the total revenue from the sale of recorded music.

Meanwhile, streaming services continue to increase their dominance in the music recording market. They generated $ 4.8 billion in revenue in the first half, or 85% of total music sales.
