A security and political meeting between the Palestinian and Israeli sides began in the Jordanian city of Aqaba, on Sunday, in an effort to discuss the current situation and prevent it from worsening.
The meeting discussed the situation in the Palestinian territories and preventing its deterioration, with the participation of representatives from Jordan, Egypt and the United States.
The Jordanian Foreign Minister and the heads of the Jordanian and Egyptian intelligence services, as well as an American delegation, also participated in the meeting.
After the discussions, the participants declared the following:
– The Palestinian and Israeli sides affirmed their commitment to all previous agreements between them, and work to achieve a just and lasting peace. They reaffirmed the need to commit to de-escalation on the ground and to prevent further violence.
– The five parties stressed the importance of preserving the historical status quo in the holy places in Jerusalem unchanged in word and deed, and stressed in this regard the Hashemite guardianship (the special Jordanian role).
– The Israeli government and the Palestinian National Authority confirmed their joint readiness and commitment to work immediately to stop unilateral measures for a period of 3-6 months.
This includes an Israeli commitment to stop discussing the establishment of any new settlement units for a period of 4 months, and to stop approving any new settlement outposts for a period of 6 months.
– The five parties agreed to meet again in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, in the next month, to achieve the aforementioned goals.
