For the first time in the country, Iranian researchers were able to cure a patient with leukemia using the “gene therapy” method.
The Secretary of the Committee for the Development of Stem Cell Science and Technology of the Presidency of the Republic said that achieving the new milestone of treating “leukemia” with gene therapy in Iran took nearly 7 years and the gene therapy product has been used to treat a patient within the country after conducting cell studies, animal studies and preclinical experiments.
He said that leukemia patients who were not treated with bone marrow transplantation had a 70% chance of recovering from the disease using the gene therapy method.
Interestingly, gene therapy is the latest method for cancer treatment in the world and no company in the world is using this method to cure cancer except two multinational companies, but this method has reached the final stage with the efforts of local researchers and an Iranian knowledge company and this science has been localized in the country.
