For the first time, the competition “European Car of the Year“in less than 60 years of history, the main title has been won by American car brands”Jeep” model “Avenger”. The final seven of the “European Car of the Year 2023” also included “Kia Niro” (200), “Renault Austral” (163), “Peugeot 408” (149), as well as twin models “Subaru Solterra” and “Toyota bZ4X” (133). .
It must be admitted that the “Jeep Avenger” bears little resemblance to the legendary American off-roader – this compact model was actually created specifically for the European market on the platform of the “Stellantis” concern, which is already known from the “Peugeot e-2008” and “Opel Mokka-e”. In addition, “Jeep Avenger” does not have all-wheel drive at all and the car itself is produced in Poland.
It was the European characteristics of “Avenger” that helped “Jeep” win the sympathy of the “European Car of the Year 2023” jury. In addition, the success of “Avenger” is the first triumph for American car manufacturers after 2012, when the hybrid “Chevrolet Volt” won this competition.
The engine of the “Jeep” electric car is placed in front and develops 156 hp and 260 Nm of torque. The lithium-ion battery pack, located under the seats and in the central tunnel, has a capacity of 54 kWh. The automaker claims that it will have a range of up to 550 km in the city driving cycle. This model will be available to customers in Latvia this summer.
In the “European Car of the Year” competition, the electric car wins for the second year in a row, as last year the Kia EV6 took the laurels. Before that, the electric car won the “European Car of the Year” competition in 2019, when the jury awarded the main title to the “Jaguar I-Pace” model.
In a similar competition in Latvia for “Latvian Car of the Year 2023″ was recognized as “Škoda Fabia”, and in Lithuania – “Citroen C5 X”. Estonia will name its “Car of the Year 2023” at the end of the month.
