For the first time in Charlotte, works by a prominent Mexican artist arrive

The event is organized by the Consulate General of Mexico in Raleighthe Universidad Iberoamericana, Obra Collective and the El Color del Arte y la Cultura organization, who joined forces to bring 18 works to Charlotte that seek to challenge traditional perceptions of Mexican culture.

We know that there are many ‘Mexicans’ and that is what we want to show, that our culture is very rich and not everything is piñatas and tacos. There are many other things and this exhibition shows a modern and contemporary Mexico, with female figures, with which Miguel Milló shows that all nature is born from women. In addition, it is a way to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and that is why the elements used are still life.“, Mónica Colin, coordinator of the Department of Community, Educational and Cultural Affairs of the consulate, told La Noticia.

What is the exhibition ‘Life Between Heartbeats’ about?

Miguel Milló is a Mexican artist, originally from Baja California, who combines magic, beauty and equality in his work. Through her photographs, she explores the female figure and celebrates the diversity of bodies and nature.

His work,Life between Heartbeats”, is characterized by images of female figures dressed with ornaments made with materials that come from the earth. His intention is to use these bodies as a vehicle for expression ‘of the profane and the ethereal’.

A way to open the doors to Latin artists in Charlotte

According to Colin, in this exhibition the community will be able to take a tour of the artist’s history and learn what inspires her works.

For his part, Luis Abundez, president of the El Color of Art and Culture Organization, commented: “We have been working with the consul for two years and when the idea of ​​bringing these works to Charlotte arose, we wanted to join in. The idea of ​​what we are doing is to open the doors to Latinos and make them see that there are opportunities for everyone here and that they can exhibit their works in places like the VAPA Center”.

When and where to see the works of Miguel Milló?

The opening of the event is on Saturday, October 5 at 12:00 pm in the Obra Collective gallery of the VAPA Center, located in 700 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202. On that occasion, attendees will be able to enjoy a video by Miguel Milló, in which he explains his vision and creative process.

In addition, participants can bring elements from nature such as flowers, fruits, seeds, soil, clay, mud, pigments, among others, for an activity in which they can participate in the creation of their own work in the style of Milló and his contemporary art.

The event is completely free and after the inauguration, the works will be available until October 29.
