For the first time in 30 years. A new button will appear on the keyboard of computers and laptops. For what?

Almost all keyboards, including laptops, will have a new key for the first time in 30 years. It will replace the “Windows” button, which is between the “Alt” and “Ctrl” keys (there may also be an FN next to it). What is the meaning of the innovation, Microsoft explained.

Copilot key, decorated with a rainbow icon, will appear on new PCs and laptops from Microsoft partners, as well as on other devices. But you can only use it with Windows 11 – on previous operating systems, the new key will perform the same function, namely, launch the Start panel. On Windows 11, pressing the Copilot button will launch the AI assistant of the same name.

Microsoft is confident that 2024 will be “the year of the AI-powered PC” and is kicking it off with a keyboard overhaul. Copilot is a reimagined Bing chatbot for Windows. It opens as a classic sidebar, from which you can manage system settings in a chat request format similar to ChatGPT. In addition, Microsoft said that the bot will be able to tell the time in other cities, predict the weather, and even write an essay using text from the clipboard.

According to Microsoft, new models of the Surface laptop series will be the first to receive the new key at the beginning of the year.

By the way, recently Microsoft released Copilot with access to GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 for iOS and Android is free for everyone and requires no registration. The application works similarly to ChatGPT, and even surpasses it in some ways.

Telegraph previously wrote that Microsoft made an amazing purchase – it bought a pumpkin plantation in the US state of Wisconsin. The transaction cost was $69 million. The company said that the purchase is crucial for the development of… artificial intelligence.
