The Riga Opera Festival, founded in 1998, closes the Latvian National Opera season every summer with the brightest events of the past musical year. This year’s festival will feature Giuseppe Verdi’s operas “Simon Bokanegra” (June 16 and 19) and “Aida” (June 9), Joaquino Rossini’s opera “Cinderella” (June 11), Jānis Kalniņš’s opera “Hamlet” (18 and 22 June) and Wolfgang Amadeus’ opera Don Juan (15 and 21 June). In addition to the conductors of the Latvian National Opera, the musical direction of several performances at the festival will be entrusted to the guest conductors. Pierre Giorgio Morandi will conduct the opera “Aida”, performances of the opera “Don Juan” under the direction of Alessandro De Marki, and Francesco Angelico will conduct the opera “Simon Bokanegra”.
This year, for the first time, the program of the Riga Opera Festival will be complemented by new ballet productions – Peter Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Swan Lake” (June 10), Debut music for “Nizhny Novgorod” (June 12).
The festival and season will end with a concert, this time both at the Latvian National Opera on June 30 and for the first time at the Jelgava Concert Hall “Mītava” on July 1. The musical director of the concert will be Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, soloists and guest soloists of the Latvian National Opera, as well as the orchestra of the Latvian National Opera will take part in it.
