The israeli military is trying to downplay the suspension of the shipment of american made munitions to Israel last week, as the Israeli leadership did not respond to its repeated warnings Washington not to proceed with the attack against her Rafa.
Commenting on the issue, Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the allies were resolving their differences. “behind closed doors”on the occasion of a symposium organized by Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper as the war in Gaza enters its eighth month.
The Israeli military said coordination between the United States and Israel has been reached “at an unprecedented level in History”.
Washington is troubled
In Washington, a top government official Biden which was not named announced that it had suspended last week’s shipment to Israel of a shipment of munitions consisting of 1,800 900-kilogram bombs and 1,700 225-kilogram bombs.
The decision was taken because Washington opposes a large-scale offensive by Israeli forces against Rafah, in the absence of a credible plan to protect the civilians who have taken refuge there. She has expressed this position repeatedly at all levels, while Joe Biden himself addressed on Monday a pre-notification to Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli and US officials discussed alternatives, but “these talks are ongoing and have not fully addressed our concerns,” the US official said.
“As Israeli officials appeared to be nearing a decision on this operation, we began to look closely at plans to send weapons that could be used specifically by Israel in Rafah. This began in April, the official explained, clarifying that Washington focused on the use of heavy bombs of 900 kilograms and “the consequences of using them in an urban densely populated environment as we have seen in other areas of Gaza.”
The State Department is also considering other shipments of munitions to Israel, such as precision-guided munitions known as JDAMs, according to the US official.
Moscow does not see a peace settlement in Gaza
THE Russia said today that he sees no prospect for a peace settlement at present Gauze or the wider Middle East and that Israel’s operation in Rafah is leading to an escalation of the conflict.
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova stated that the conflict has caused “humanitarian disaster”.
At the same time, Russian diplomacy requested “strict respect” of international humanitarian law concerning the Israeli attack on Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, referring to “destabilizing agent”.
“We demand strict respect for the provisions of international humanitarian law”Zakharova said, noting that the start of Israel’s ground military operation in Rafah is “another destabilizing factor, including for the entire region.”
The African Union condemns Israel
THE African Union condemned today in a statement the operations of the Israeli army in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, and asked the international community “stop the deadly escalation.”
“The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has expressed his extreme concern over the war waged by Israel in Gaza, which is causing mass deaths and systematic destruction every moment,” refers to the announcement published on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
The organization “strongly condemns the extension of this war to the Rafah crossing point, the only corridor for the passage of humanitarian aid” and “asks the entire international community to effectively coordinate joint action to stop this deadly escalation”.
Yesterday Tuesday the Israeli army deployed tanks near Rafah and placed under its control the border crossing with Egypt.
On Sunday, the other border crossing that connects Israel with the Gaza Strip, Kerem Shalom, was closed after an attack by the armed wing of Hamas in the area that caused the death of four Israeli soldiers.
However, earlier today the Israeli authorities announced the reopening of Kerem Shalom in order to “allow humanitarian aid to enter” Gaza.
G.G. also reacts. of the UN
Yesterday its general secretary UN Antonio Guterres he asked “the immediate opening” of the crossing points in Rafah and Kerem Shalom, considering that their closure “is particularly burdensome for the already desperate humanitarian situation” in the Palestinian enclave.
