The Argentina national team refuses to live in luxury hotels
Lionel Messi, the striker of the Argentina national team and the rest of the stars of the team, has decided to sacrifice a life of luxury by hosting students in the World Cup.
Tango’s team arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the early hours of Thursday morning, and have refused to travel to the fancier hotels, as have the rest of the teams in the tournament.
The Argentines immediately moved to the more modest accommodation in the Qatar University student halls, as confirmed by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, which indicated that the reason for this was the desire of the team’s stars to have enough space to enjoy the barbecue.
Therefore, a special barbecue area was built in the university courtyard for Messi and his companions to enjoy a variety of beef slices and sausages that they specially brought from their country, because they are considered traditional dishes in Argentina.
A source from the Argentine Football Federation said: “We have visited the campus several times and we chose it because it not only has great facilities but also an open space for the asados, and this is very important because it is part of our culture and will make feel at home while in Qatar”.
The Qatar University campus is located on the outskirts of Doha and contains 90 rooms and many sports facilities, as well as an Olympic-sized swimming pool and football pitch with a capacity of 10,000.
It is worth noting that Argentina is in Group C of the World Cup with Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland.
