The RIA Novosti news agency, citing a source, reported that a criminal case had been opened against Grozev for “spreading false news about the Russian army” under the law that Russia adopted after the invasion of Ukraine .

Russia’s Federal Security Service has accused Grozev of helping the Ukrainian secret service.

Grozev tweeted that he has no idea why he was included on Russia’s wanted list, so he can’t comment.

“In a way, it doesn’t matter — they’ve made it clear for years that they’re afraid of our work and will stop at nothing to stop it,” the reporter said.

Grozev is Bellingcat’s top Russian reporter and led the investigation into the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This year Grozev has focused on Russia’s military activities in Ukraine.
