Among the popular events in Val-de-Marne, the Villejuif Corrida is one of the places not to be missed. This Sunday, October 9, hundreds of runners will be participating and there is something for everyone. We tell you everything you need to know about this beautiful running festival.
The beginning of the 34th edition of the Villejuif Corrida will be given this Sunday, October 9 at 10:00 at the Hautes Bruyères Departmental Park. To cater for all racing enthusiasts, the event is split into six races. And everyone will find their happiness there. In addition to the regional 5km or the national 10km for those with stronger legs, qualification for the French Championships, three events are aimed at young people. A 600m “Family Race” was also included in the programme.
A race where top level athletes and Sunday joggers compete side by side. Two universes for a meeting: “ The Corrida de Villejuif has become, over the years, a major sporting event for our community and enjoys great national notoriety, in particular thanks to the 10km and 5km, qualifying for the French championshipsthe organizers tell us. It’s a party, beyond the races, with many activities in the Race Village for adults and children, both for runners and spectators. We have more than 500 registered for youth events. »
Organized by the City of Villejuif in collaboration with AS Villejuif Elite Athlétisme, ASFI and the Villejuif Triathlon, the Ile-de-France event brings together amateurs present for fun and professionals in search of time. In 2021, the Corrida de Villejuif saw eight runners dip under 29’30 over 10km. Among them, the 2021 European cross-country team champion Félix Bour finished sixth in 28’28. The two records for the event had been broken: first place went to Kenyan Emmanuel Maru in 27’49, a remarkable performance on a relatively hilly course, while her compatriot Purity Jemutai Komen won in the women’s category in 30’49 , a world-class timetable. There are bonuses for the first 10 women and the first 10 men over 10 km, as well as a bonus for the record of the event. The medal and the T-shirt will be the reward for a great effort for all finishers!
