The first generation Volvo V70 was a further development of the 850 and debuted in 1996. On Blocket, the cars go for around 20,000 kroner, but there is a V70 till salu i USA for 10,500 times more.
The car in question, a Volvo V70 from 1998 with a 2.4-liter straight five under the hood, is for sale for 20 million US dollars, equivalent to 210,103,600 kroner.
The reason is quite simple – the purchase includes a very special license plate. The car is for sale in New York and has ”New York” as registration number.
What costs is the sign itself, while you get the car in the bargain.

Those who have been to New York have probably seen the endless number of souvenir shops that exist – where you can buy pretend license plates that say New York. The difference is that the sign on the Volvo is genuine.
The current owner has had the plate on a number of cars since the 1970s, when the plate was commissioned by the US equivalent of the Norwegian Transport Agency.
An astonishingly large market
In the US, like many other countries, you can have license plates that are not only tied to a specific car, but also to a person. This means that there is a market for buying and selling license plates.
In Sweden, personal signs cost SEK 6,200 and the sign is then valid for ten years.
However, the personal plate is linked to a regular registration number and it is not possible to transfer the plate to someone else.
Some other examples from the USA are the “CASH” sign, which is sold for the equivalent of SEK 20 million, or “MM” which can be yours for SEK 255 million.
