The Mercedes-Benz W140, called the “mammoth”, has many fans even 25 years after the end of production. If you are one of them, then you might be interested in the specimen that is currently for sale in Bratislava.
But before we introduce him, let’s take a brief trip into history. Recently, my colleague Aleš Dragoun covered the W140 series in great detail, in his two articles you will find a lot of interesting information and details.
This time we will just remind you that the Mercedes W140, the successor of the W126 type, was unveiled in November 1990 and that it had its live premiere in March 1991 at the Geneva Motor Show. Since January, however, serial production has been running.
In July 1993, there was an interesting change for the large sedan: Mercedes-Benz started using a new nomenclature that uses the designation “S-Klasse/S-Class” for the top classic Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The abbreviation stood for “Sonderklasse”, i.e. “special class”.
The W140 series was produced until September 1998, according to available information, 406,717 sedans and 26,025 related coupes (C140) were produced. Other figures speak of 406,710 sedans and 26,022 coupes.
A car that is for sale at the company AR Cars in Bratislava, was put into operation in March 1992, “officially”, or rather only on paper, so it is not quite an S-Klasse yet. But that is not important, the important thing is that this specimen in the 300 SE version (later known as S 320) has driven only 39,000 kilometers according to the seller.
Under the hood is an in-line six-cylinder with a volume of 3199 cubic centimeters, which provides a maximum power of 170 kW (231 hp) at 5800 rpm and a maximum torque of 310 Nm at 4100 rpm. It is connected to an automatic transmission.
In addition to the low ground clearance, the car impresses with its colorful interior, the equipment includes, for example, leather upholstery, a radio, electrically operated windows, heated seats, electrically adjustable seats, an on-board computer or headlight washers. The price is 390,000 CZK.
