The Corrado is among the most admired models of the Volkswagen concern from the turn of the 80s and 90s. We found one interesting piece for sale.
The Corrado is a compact coupe that Volkswagen produced between 1988 and 1995. According to available information, 97,535 examples were produced in the roughly seven years of production.
The most powerful and fastest version was the VR6 version with a 2.9-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine that produced a maximum power of 140 kW (190 hp) at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 245 Nm at 4,200 rpm. The Corrado VR6 accelerated from standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and went over 230 km/h.
But the G60 variant was also interesting. Under the hood, it hid a G-fan supercharged gasoline four-cylinder with a volume of 1.8 liters and producing 118 kW (160 hp) at 5600 rpm and 225 Nm at 3800 rpm. The Corrado G60 reached 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and reached a top speed of 225 km/h.
For all engines, Volkswagen offered a five-speed manual transmission and, from 1991, also a four-speed automatic. The coupe was available exclusively with front-wheel drive.
However, the interesting example we found for sale in Austria is far from factory condition. A few years ago, it underwent an extensive reconstruction – and it is much faster thanks to it.
A black 1993 Corrado with a two-liter four-cylinder with 16 valves served as the basis. However, the engine was completely redesigned, received a number of new parts and was modified. In addition, the owner added turbocharging. It is said that the power can reach 380 horses. Hand in hand with these modifications, there was also a new exhaust system, better brakes, effective cooling and the like. Since the conversion, the power unit has managed about 8,000 kilometers.
The power of the engine is transmitted by a six-speed manual gearbox from the fourth generation Golf – but not only to the front wheels, but to all wheels if necessary. The creator equipped the car with a 4Motion four-wheel drive with a Haldex inter-axle coupling. The solution from CRC Performance then allows the driver to change its behavior via a controller in the interior.
The car also offers an adjustable KW Automotive V3 chassis, 18-inch OZ Ultraleggera wheels shod with 205/35 tires and a rich leather-trimmed interior with Recaro seats and a roll cage. The seller also notes that he has “legalized” all modifications.
And the price? The special Corrado is on sale for 32,500 euros, which translates to about 775 thousand crowns.
