For Orelsan, the year 2022 is not getting off to a bad start

Due to the return of the gauges in theaters, the Caen rapper had to postpone the launch of his new tour. A slight setback for an artist whose last album is a great success with the public and the profession with four nominations for the Victories.

He was to begin his new “home” tour on January 15, at the Zénith in Caen. Alas, the one who reinvented himself a few years ago as a super hero (Raelsan), inspired by comic culture and that of the shonen (manga), must face a new formidable enemy in the name of giant robot, Omicron. On December 28, the day after government announcements to stem the wave of Covid-19 contamination, Orelsan and his team announced the postponement of the first concerts of the tour. Norman fans will have to wait until April to find their favorite artist. “We will take advantage of this time to prepare an even crazier show“, would like to clarify Orelsan as if to console them.

The king of the galette

The rapper is optimistic and in recent weeks his success, both public and critical, has given him reason to be. At a time when streaming continues to bury the record a little more every day, Orelsan sells CDs by pallets.

Even before its release in the bins, “Civilization” was already a gold record thanks to 50,000 pre-orders. A week later, the counters continued to panic: 138,929 albums sold, the best start since 2018 and a historic record for this musical genre in France. The icing on the cake: Orelsan styled the British diva Adèle, whose record was however eagerly awaited.

And at the end of the year, when it comes time to draw up the accounts, it is the Caen rapper who puts on the crown with 340,000 copies sold and three platinum records. The king of the galette, we tell you. And Orelsan continues its momentum in 2022 since Civilization figures still in first place during this first week of the year.

Soon four new Victories on the clock?

When Orelsan goes to the Victoires de la Musique, it is never for nothing. In 2012, he won his first two statuettes with the rap album of the year and the artist revelation to the public. Six years later, the box is full: three nominations and three Victories in the end (male artist of the year, urban music album and audiovisual creation). The following year, he can add a sixth award to his fireplace. And to salute his Victoire for the best concert of the year, the Caen rapper will not forget to thank his entire team on stage, no less than fifty people whose names will be mentioned, a tribute to “forgotten music victories“for Orelsan.

Three years later, the Caen rapper is back in the bins, soon on stage and to music victories with a new personal best: no less than four nominations. Le Normand is nominated in the “Male Artist of the Year”, “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year” categories. Regarding his fourth nomination, it is more the work of his little brother Clément Cotentin that is honored. The documentary series “Never show that to anyone” retracing the career of Orelsan and produced by the youngest of the Cotentin siblings is nominated in the “Best audiovisual creation” category.
