The DBB selection would compete in group B in the preliminary round. There the opponents would be Australia, Nigeria and a third team that has not yet qualified. That was the result of the draw on Tuesday, which took place at the headquarters of the world association FIBA in Mies / Switzerland.
The third potential opponent in the preliminary round is the winner of the qualifying tournament in Belgrade. There host Serbia, the Olympic runner-up in 2016, is the favorite.
According to the current status, Germany is playing in Split, Croatia (June 29 to July 4) for a ticket for the games in Tokyo. There it is first against Mexico and Russia, two teams make it to the semi-finals. The hosts Croatia, Tunisia and Brazil play in the parallel group. Only the tournament winner is allowed to travel to the Olympic Games. A total of twelve teams will then compete in Japan’s capital.
