The NFL plans for all of its teams to travel

NFL owners will meet today and tomorrow for two sessions a day and modifications to the regular season schedule are expected to be approved.

However, the league has a proposal that “will be discussed and put to a vote” on international matches, according to a report from sportsbusinessjournal.com.

The proposal consists of “requiring all teams to host at least one home game at the international level every eight years,” according to the publication.

This means that the league’s plans to play games abroad will continue in the future.

The NFL began playing games outside of the United States in the 2005 season, with the duel between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers on October 2 of that year at the Azteca Stadium.

Since 2007 at least one regular season game has been played in London, alternating between Wembley Stadium, Twickenham Stadium and Tottenham’s new stadium.

In total, the NFL has played 28 regular season games in England and four in Mexico, including the first overseas “Monday Night Football” between the Houston Texans and the Oakland Raiders on November 21, 2016.

The 2019 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams was canceled and ended up being played at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles due to the poor conditions of the Azteca Stadium.

In early 2020 the Cardinals announced that they would play in Mexico, however, the league postponed all their international games for the year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The league planned to play four games in London and one in Mexico City that season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were scheduled to play two home games at Wembley Stadium in London, while the other two NFL games were scheduled to be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Last February, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the NFL does contemplate a game in Mexico for 2021, clarifying that “If at any point in time we feel that we cannot execute it safely, we will make that determination. Last year, I think, we decided not to play the international games at some point just before the schedule was revealed, I think it was in April. ”- ESPN
