Former Formula 1 driver Jenson Button is horrified that Sebastian Vettel is leaving Ferrari. He has no understanding why the Italian racing team no longer relies on Vettel.

The bomb exploded last week: Vettel will leave Scuderia after six years at the end of the current season. According to insiders, the Italians could no longer imagine working with the German.

“If Vettel was pushed to do that, it would be insane for me,” Jenson Button told “Sky Sports F1”. «He is a four-time world champion. I think he showed his speed last year. He had a difficult time in the season when Charles (Leclerc) was doing really well, which was a little bit mental, »says Button.

«But he came back really strong afterwards. He is just someone you would definitely put in your car if you had a Fromel-1 team, »concluded the Briton.

No World Cup title: Vettel’s time at Ferrari

Ferrari will not renew the contract with Sebastian Vettel, which expires at the end of the year. We look back on the past five seasons of the Heppenheimer at Scuderia.

Button doesn’t trust the thing

«There has to be more to it. I don’t know if Ferrari doesn’t want two number one drivers or whatever, but it’s a really strange decision for me. I am still shocked by Sebastian’s decision not to sit in a red car, »said the 2009 World Champion.

For Button there is more to the separation: “It was just a strange time. We haven’t seen a Formula 1 car in months – it’s really unusual to make such decisions when the drivers haven’t driven yet. »

“Usually it’s the middle of the season and you’d see the boys do this year. Vettel could have had four or five victories this year. Then the decision would certainly have been completely different, »he conjectures.

Button, who was in the Formula 1 circus for 17 years, is a great admirer of the 32-year-old. He counts Vettel alongside Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, Mika Hakkinen and Max Verstappen among the six best pilots against whom he has driven in his career.
