For May 1st! Fedecámaras points to a staggered increase in the minimum wage

The issue of a possible increase in the minimum wage in the coming days continues to be in the public arena. This Tuesday the president of Fedecámaras, Carlos Fernández, assured that this could happen but graduallyall as the Venezuelan economy recovers.

He indicated that by April 30, the methodology to establish the minimum wage should have been agreed upon, for which reason he anticipates that the announcement of the increase can be made on May 1.

«The possibility that it can be staggered is very much on the table. This does not rule out that the minimum wage can be accompanied by other measures that are not wages, but that help improve living conditions.Fernandez said.

He also specified that since last January and up to the present, progress has been made in the tripartite table devised by the International Labor Organization (ILO), all this in order to reach the desired agreement and thus have a “satisfactory and sustainable number” of the minimum wage.

Fernández further noted that a private sector worker has an average salary of 120 dollars, which does not mean that everyone reaches that same amount. “It is the amount that is repeated in various sectors”, he stated.

In the same way, he reiterated that many times the full amount does not end up being the salary, but it can end up being an income that is completed with bonuses, in addition to social benefits.
