This Monday, June 13, the Clamecy hospital emergency room was closed to the public in the morning. The only doctor who was to ensure continuity of service was absent. He informed management quickly, citing a medical reason early in the morning, at 8 a.m.
The delegated director of the hospital center, Julien Kiszczak, planned a reopening of the emergency room from 1:30 p.m., with the presence of another doctor and two practitioners scheduled for the end of the day. “We had to find solutions in more emergency mode”, confirms the managing director. “We have minimized the difficulties and we are in contact with center 15 to ensure the regulation of patients who present themselves to the emergency services”.
“We are not able to accommodate vital emergencies”
Eddy Geste (CGT), emergency nurse

“There is no Smur, no emergencies. We are not able to accommodate vital emergencies or even to go to the homes of patients to save them, ”lamented this morning Eddy Geste, the secretary of the CGT, emergency nurse. According to the latter: “Only one out of two doctors had been on the schedule for two weeks. His absence has led to a gaping hole in the territory’s network.
For Eddy Geste, the fact of finding himself alone to manage both emergencies and the Smur may have caused this absence. “It’s something that doctors usually refuse to do. They don’t want to do the work of two practitioners in one day. With the work overload that is created, there is a medical risk. To intervene within the framework of the Smur, it is necessary to leave the patients of the urgencies in a sufficiently stable framework to manage them and at the same time to pass at home. Ensuring by telephone, from the Smur, continuity of care for patients who are on site: that is what is very dangerous. »

The trade unionist especially deplores a lack of communication from management. “They just informed the regulations that fewer people had to be brought to the Clamecy emergency room, but they did not invite the population not to come. The management should have communicated the fact that this day was already overstretched with only one doctor announced. This work has not been done. »
Still according to the CGT, the regulation (center 15) was itself in tension this Monday, June 13: “There are only two doctors available in Dijon, whereas they are usually five. Wait times are longer. And Decize also lacks a doctor. What is happening today in Clamecy is likely to happen for several weeks this summer”.
Return to normal hoped for Tuesday, June 14
In Clamecy, the nurses on duty continued to provide reception, taking the constants of the patients (pulse, blood pressure, etc.), and providing first aid before redirecting them to the 15th. The procedure also provided for the intervention of the medical doctor who is therefore not an emergency doctor.
A person with a large leg wound was thus taken care of, with the application of bandages. Tuesday, June 14, the service will be back to normal with two doctors.
