The women’s team won the long-awaited ticket to the first edition of the W 2024 Gold Cup, a historic feat that will remain part of the history of Salvadoran soccer. Eric Acuña’s team beat the Guatemalan team 3-1 thanks to Brenda Cerén’s hat trick, and will be in group C, along with Canada, Costa Rica and Paraguay, in the group stage.
With a win included, thanks to the performance of Brenda Cerén, one of the most important jewels of the women’s team, El Salvador will be in its first edition of the Gold Cup. “I had been kicking the frame for around 15 days and no ball was going in. In fact, before the game I took seven shots and no goals scored either. I believe that God gives you things when you least expect it and I will always give the glory and honor to him, because without him I am nothing,” said Cerén, after he finished as MVP of the match after the triplet.
One of the keys to achieving the expected result for the Atlas FC player was the team’s desire to work with the national team and, as she said, the majority of the squad spent two months in El Salvador preparing for the match.
