The coalition partners in the federal government do not like a VAT reduction from 21 to 6 percent, but that does not have to be an obstacle. Because higher invoices also increase VAT revenue for the state. Vooruit chairman Conner Rousseau and Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) both suggest that this income can flow back to the population.

“The energy bill has tripled in a few months. And winter has yet to begin. People rightly look with fear at their energy bills. Then the government has to intervene now,” says Rousseau. Van Peteghem calls such an intervention on VTM Nieuws logic itself.
The Socialists have checked their proposal. Between June 2021 and June 2022, the higher prices will bring the state treasury a conservative estimate of 350 million euros. “That is inexplicable,” says Rousseau. “We should use that money to lower people’s energy bills.”
How does not matter, it sounds to the socialists. “That can be done with a decrease in excise duties or with an energy cheque, you name it.” (brain)
