The Witcher 3 has always been a game with adult elements. The world is dark and full of murder, racism and exposed genitals. The latter only went a lot further in the next-gen version of the game. Developer CD Projekt RED found out about this last week and quickly resolved the problem.
The next-gen version of The Witcher 3 does not only have improvements from the developer itself, the Polish studio has also used mods to make adjustments – with approval and compensation for the modders in question. One mod was more extensive than CD Projekt RED had thought, a spokesperson said IGN. It was not about an NSFW mod that at first glance seemed to be the culprit.
“What we found out recently is that the vulva textures in question were part of the ‘HD Monsters Reworked’ (HDRM) mod. Not the ‘Vaginas for Everyone’ mod.”
Hotfix not because of nudity
Since the developer found out, a hotfix for the game has been released quickly. CD Projekt RED wants to make it clear that the “feature” was not removed as a statement against nudity or adult themes. According to the studio, the update was released to “maintain a visual consistency across all character models.”
