For disrespecting dismissal lights. Havlíček discussed safety on the railways

“Railway safety has become an absolute priority of our ministry in recent days,” said Minister of Transport and Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (YES) at the beginning of the press conference, noting that in some areas there will not be another day.

According to Havlíček, one of them will be a clearly defined length of work shift. “The shift will be a maximum of thirteen hours and the much-discussed overhead ride will always be over,” the minister said. He then called it necessary for the Chamber of Deputies to discuss the amendment to the Railways Act in September and for monitoring of train drivers’ licenses to work.

New rules

Another novelty is the possibility of revoking the driver’s license, which Havlíček likened to a driver card in road traffic. “Drivers who repeatedly fail to comply with signals or other instructions for safe driving may lose their license or be suspended,” the minister warned. Havlíček also described some crossings and bridges as problematic.

From tomorrow, new rules apply on D3 lines. According to them, the train driver must always report to the signalman for communication and instructions for the next journey.

In recent weeks, there have been a number of widely discussed incidents on Czech railways. The most tragic of them took place in July in Karlovy Vary near Pernink, where two trains collided. Two people died in the accident, another 24 were injured. Statistics show that, overall, the number of accidents on the railways occurred in July since 2015.

There were three more accidents during this week. The last of them took place on Friday morning, when wagons drove spontaneously at the railway crossing in Mstětice near Prague, injuring two people and demolishing a car.
