For Deliveroo, compulsory insurance against accidents at work represents “a step forward”

The meal delivery company Deliveroo reacted with satisfaction on Tuesday morning to the first elements of the agreement on the reform of the labor market, the details of which are presented this Tuesday morning. The agreement in question does not exclude self-employed status for couriers. The company also says it is satisfied with the obligation to be insured for accidents at work. The federal government agreed Monday evening during the “kern” on a new employment contract. The deal also includes regulation for employees in the platform economy, like Deliveroo and Uber. Eight criteria are defined to decide whether a person should be considered as self-employed or as an employee. All employees must also be insured against accidents at work.

For Deliveroo, this compulsory insurance already represents a step forward. “Protection is the most important thing. Until now, we could not offer this insurance, because it would have been considered as a reason to requalify the status. This agreement will change that”said spokesman Rodolphe Van Nuffel. “The agreement does not exclude that our couriers can be independent. This is something we welcome”he added.
