The lower house of parliament on Sunday approved new government measures to combat coronavirus by 215 votes to 58.
–
The most important part of the measure is the introduction of a vaccination passport, which all people over the age of 16 will have to show if they want to visit various public places, such as restaurants, cafes or cinemas. A full vaccination certificate will also be required for long-distance trains and all domestic flights, according to the AP.
–
The law is expected to enter into force shortly. Until now, unvaccinated people in France have been able to visit public facilities after submitting a negative coronavirus test. Almost 78 percent of the population in France is fully vaccinated, the health ministry said on Saturday.
–
French President Emmanuel Macron, who is expected to defend his term in the April presidential election, said in an interview with Le Parisien earlier this month that he is determined to upset the unvaccinated and make life as difficult as possible for them.
–
Thousands of people demonstrated against the law on Saturday in Paris and other French cities, but there were significantly fewer than a week ago, Reuters reported.
–
France is now facing the fifth wave of the coid epidemic, with daily increments repeatedly exceeding 300,000. However, the number of patients with a serious intensive care unit is significantly lower than in the first wave of the epidemic in March and April 2020.
